Rules of Entry

Any licensed establishment that is open to the general public is welcomed for entry. Popular locations are listed in the "Your Favorites" section with only the number of recommendations determining Top 10 positions.

"Independent Margaritas" are those found in non-chain/franchise establishments (no more than three locations under the same banner). Restaurant/Bars with the same owner but unique names qualify as "Independent". A single sample from an "Independent" qualifies for judging.  "Independent" margaritas are the result of the artistry of a particular bartender and TopMargaritas.com cannot guarantee consistency of quality.

"Chain Margaritas" are those restaurants with three or more locations under the same name.  Three samples from different locations are used to rate "Chain Margaritas".  A blend of the three scores is taken for ranking purposes (or exceptions will be noted in commentary)

Tasting commences by alerting bartenders in advance with a notification card, presented at the time of ordering.  Our rules are shared with the bartender.  These rules are:

1. The Margarita made must be available to the general public

2. The tequila used must be consistent with the kind regularly used in the creation of the drink

3. The total public price of the Margarita cannot exceed $15.00 (note: new retail)

TopMargarita.com tasters review the Margarita against our pre-set "Standards of Love" and record the results before the first drink has been completely consumed.
